Census data feed government intervention |
A census can only gather accurate information with the use of
coercion and intrusion in people’s lives. This in itself is enough to oppose it from a libertarian
perspective and the government was right to justify its decision on this
basis. |

I Love to Count! The Census and State
Coercion |
On June 29 of this year,
the Harper government announced it would
abolish the mandatory long-form census. What does it mean to have
a mandatory census? How do we justify it? And do we really want the
census to be “mandatory”? |

Conservatives and the Census: Toying with
Libertarian Ideas |
The Harper government has rightly decided to
make the long-form census voluntary. But it now seems to be
losing the argument and inadvertently casting doubt on the
general principle involved. |

ILLIBERAL BELIEF # 30:
It's wrong to profit
from the misery of others |
There is a widespread
notion that must be combated before a truly free market in
health care could ever again become palatable to anything more
than the libertarian fringe: the notion that it is wrong to
profit from the misery of others. |

The Anti-Educational Effects of Public
Schools |
The notions of "school spirit" and "discipline"
are so deeply intertwined with American public education today
that they would probably survive even deep budget cuts. Those
two notions go against the spirit of education. |

Who Would Maintain Roads Worse than the
State? |
The question of transportation infrastructure is often posed to those
who reveal themselves to be anarchists. "Without government, how would
roads be built?" Let's start with "Without government, how could roads be worse?" |

Canada Seeks to Phase Out the Economic
Stimulus Package |
There may have been the hope that the short-term
stimulus package would have created
some long-term business opportunity along with several long-term
private sector jobs. The history of economic stimulus packages
indicates otherwise. |

socialisme. |
